India-based foodtech startup HungerBox raises US$12M to expand to Southeast Asia

Bangalore-based foodtech startup HungerBox has closed US$12 million in funding from a host of Indian and international investors such as Paytm and NPTK, who joined existing backers Sabre Partners and Neoplux. The funding is the extension of the US$4.5 million round from Sabre, Neoplux, Lionrock Capital (Singapore), and Infosys Co-founder Kris Gopalakrishnan in 2018.

The startup said it will use the new investment to grow HungerBox’s operations in 10 new Indian cities as well as fuel the company’s international expansion to Southeast Asia.

Founded in 2016, HungerBox offers end-to-end F&B tech-based operations management.

Sandipan Mitra, CEO and Co-Founder, HungerBox, said, “We are currently following a three-pronged approach: Deepening engagement into the corporate sector which we already served in 18 cities across India, expanding into sectors which reveal massive scope for improving F&B management, such as education, healthcare (hospitals), and retail (malls), and expanding geographically beyond India.”

HungerBox offers solutions that allow pre-ordering, live order tracking, digital payments, feedback management, cafeteria density tracking, desk-based ordering, food ordering for meeting rooms, food ordering for organisational events, nutrition tracking, and more. It connects food partners to end consumers within client establishments through a customised mobile app available to each user.

Using the app, users can view the F&B menu provided by all enlisted food partners, place orders, and get real-time updates of their order. They can also provide ratings or feedback.

HungerBox’s solution provides facilitators at the establishments with the ability to track the entire F&B operation including food consumption, orders, and feedback.

HungerBox currently has operations in Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Coimbatore, Delhi, Gandhinagar, Goa, Gurgaon, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Noida, Pune, and Trivandrum.

It claims to have 126 businesses and institutions in India across 18 Indian cities as its clients.
