BeliMobilGue ropes in Johnny Widodo from OVO as its new CEO; to receive over US$30M from Frontier Car Group

BeliMobilGue.co.id, an online transactional marketplace for used cars in Indonesia, announced today the appointment of Johnny Widodo as its new CEO, effective immediately.

Additionally, the startup has also announced that its Berlin-based joint venture partner Frontier Car Group will commit over US$30 million to BeliMobilGue.co.id over the next two years in order to provide continued strategic support in terms of capital and resources.

Widodo joins BeliMobilGue from financial services platform OVO, where he was founding team member leading various functions, including marketing, operations, analytics and most recent position as Director of Sales and Partnerships.

At BeliMobilGue, Widodo will oversee a number of strategic initiatives to drive forward business momentum in Indonesia for the year 2019-2020. This includes accelerated hiring efforts to build a team and improving operations and service in order to provide greater support to dealers through targeted products and services, as well as optimising and creating new partnerships to generate growth. The company will also pursue new lines of business.

Widodo is an entrepreneur with years of experience spanning roles in engineering, management consulting, strategy, marketing and sales across Indonesia, Singapore, the United States and around the world. He joined OVO in late 2015 as a founding team member, where he led sales and operations activities in digital financial services. During his time at OVO, he led efforts to build presence and partnerships across 409 malls in over 300 cities throughout Indonesia.

BeliMobilGue was founded as a joint venture between Naspers/OLX-backed Frontier Car Group and Indonesia-only independent venture capital firm Intudo Ventures. Launched in April 2017, BeliMobilGue enables consumers to sell their cars to a large private network of 1,000-plus qualified buyers throughout Indonesia. It allows consumers to maximise car’s selling price by exposing their vehicle to Indonesian professional car buyers nationwide and providing buyers with a trusted channel for unlimited used car acquisition.

In February, BeliMobilGue secured a US$10 million Series A funding led by Frontier Car Group. Its other backers include local automotive giant PT Tunas Ridean Tbk, Amand Ventures, Tasman Fund, Digital Garage and Go-jek co-founder Michaelangelo Moran.
